What Meta's UI Overlaps on Your Ad
Feed Formats (Square, Portrait, Landscape)
Meta feed ads use a 10% buffer on all sides, identical across Facebook and Instagram. The "Sponsored" badge and reaction row sit outside the image card - the margin just accounts for Meta's occasional zoom/crop behavior. Portrait 4:5 (1080x1350) is the recommended starting point for feed. Use the ad preview tool to see how your creative looks in a live feed context.
Feed Square, Portrait, and Landscape use the same proportional safe zone. Design once, and the safe zone template applies to all three.
Stories (9:16)
Meta Stories have 250px (13%) danger zones top and bottom - account header up top, swipe/tap CTA zone at the bottom. Stories compete in their own inventory pool and are often the cheapest placement per impression on Meta.
Reels (9:16)
Reels have a 450px (23.4%) bottom danger zone - nearly double Stories - because the comment input, engagement row, and audio badge all overlay the content. There's also a right-side cutout for the action buttons. If you're reusing a Story creative for Reels, check the bottom edge - the extra 200px eats CTAs and price callouts constantly.
